Since 1984, he has served as the Butler Chaired Professor Emeritus and Butler Laboratory Director Emeritus at the University of Florida, Gainesville, focusing his current research on the sustainability of polyolefins. Previously, he pioneered the acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization chemistry, now used worldwide. With 260 reviewed publications, 66 patents, and an H-index of 60, his contributions are significant. From 1973 to 1984, he worked at Akzo Nobel nv, American Enka Research in Enka, NC, where he held roles including Department Manager and later became the Technical Director of Membrana Inc., leading the development of the blood oxygenator used in Heart/Lung machines, a technology now commercialized and acquired by 3M Company. Additionally, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, teaching organic and polymer courses in the evenings while employed at Akzo Nobel.
